This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Readwith collects and why. Readwith is a private reading room operated by Hemendra in India (“Readwith,” “we,” “us”). People worldwide may create accounts. This is a practical starting policy that matches how the product works today. We intend to refine it with counsel-reviewed language as we grow. If a later counsel-approved policy conflicts with this one, the approved policy controls.
1.Who we are and scope
This policy covers the Readwith website and app experiences we operate, including sign-in, library, reader, annotations, Discuss, and billing-related screens.
It does not cover third-party sites you leave Readwith to visit (for example a payment provider’s hosted checkout), except as we describe when we share data with them to provide the service.
2.What we collect
Account data: email address, authentication identifiers (including from Google sign-in when you choose it), and profile preferences such as theme and locale.
Library and reading data: book metadata, covers, indexing status, reading progress, and related library settings.
Content you provide: uploaded book files, highlights, notes, companion display names, and messages or transcripts from Discuss when we persist them.
Usage and billing data: Discuss session timing used to burn credits, plan and credit balance information, and payment-related identifiers from our payment provider (we do not store full card numbers).
Technical data: basic logs and device or browser signals needed to run, secure, and debug the service.
3.How we use data
We use data to authenticate you; sync your library and progress; power Discuss with knowledge from your books; bill and display companion credits; provide support; and keep the product secure and reliable.
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not use the contents of your books to train public foundation models outside our product pipeline without a clear, separate consent flow.
4.Your books and reading
Books you upload are stored so you can read across devices. We parse chapters, create text chunks, and generate embeddings so companions can retrieve relevant passages.
Retrieval is gated by your recorded reading progress when Discuss asks for book knowledge. We do not put the unconstrained full book into a third-party knowledge base for open Q&A.
Your library is private to your account. It is not a public social feed.
5.Discuss and AI providers
Discuss sessions may be processed by AI and voice providers so companions can respond in text or voice. Today that includes ElevenLabs for conversational agents and related voice features, and Fireworks for embedding generation used in our knowledge pipeline.
We send what is needed for the session: prompts, relevant knowledge snippets, and progress context. Providers process data under their terms and our configuration. We aim to minimize what leaves our stack and how long it is retained where the product allows.
Conversations may be stored in our systems after a session so you can return to them in the product.
7.International processing
Readwith is operated from India. Our processors may store or process data in other countries (including the United States and the European Economic Area), depending on where those providers run their services.
If you use Readwith from another country, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data-protection rules than your own.
8.Retention
We keep account and library data while your account is active.
If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal data associated with it within about 30 days, except where we must retain records longer (for example billing records, fraud prevention, or legal holds).
Cached copies of books or preferences on your devices remain under your control when you clear site or app data.
9.Your choices and rights
You can update profile preferences, delete books where the product allows, and delete your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Contact us to exercise those rights. We may need to verify your request.
Where the law requires consent for a specific use, you can withdraw that consent without affecting processing that does not rely on consent.
11.Security
We use industry-standard measures such as encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege service roles, including row-level security on user data where our database supports it.
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Use a strong unique password and protect your devices.
12.Children
Readwith is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.
If you believe we have collected such data, contact hello@readwith.io and we will delete it.
13.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be posted with an updated date. For significant changes we may also notify you in-product or by email when practical.
